From stable to sumptuous

The story of The Mews

Huntsworth Mews originally formed part of the title and were ancillary to properties on Dorset Square, and have become separated over time. Long ago, the Mews comprised a fully-functioning coach house, with stalls for the horses and possibly also a loose box or yard for them. Grooms and stablehands resided on the upper floors as well as an area for hay and grain storage.

Whilst Dorset Square dates back to the Georgian era, the Mews themselves sustained damage during World War Two when a bomb fell upon the area; these, and the surrounding properties, had to be rebuilt.

Huntsworth Property acquired the buildings as a shell of their former style; conjoined as a ground floor office space, and three flats at first floor level. The potential to convert the property back to its original configuration was tantalising.
The Mews were then gently stripped back to their original masonry walls and floors. Redevelopment has been a journey of joy, discovery, and adaptation. For instance, we unearthed and replaced a drainage gulley (originally for the stable) on the ground floor that was too uneven to build on. Or we installed a new first floor in Mews 7 upon discovering that the original sat higher than that of the other properties (for storing a tall cart below in times gone by), and we wished to maintain a sense of harmony throughout the suite of properties.

All renovation has been truly considerate of the original use, architecture, and its contribution to the conservation area. A host of charming details remain to stoke the imagination and conjure an ambience reflective of the properties’ origins; yet attention to detail and fine modern design create a balance perfect for living life to the fullest. Exposed brick feature walls. Thoughtfully positioned shower controls. The colour palette of features and finishes.

Huntsworth Mews is a collection of properties replete with historical delight perfectly combined with modern design, function and style. The result is a suite entirely suited to the engenderment of your happiest moments and memories.

Amenable locality

Huntsworth Mews are situated in a quiet corner of beautiful Marylebone, often and accurately described as a tranquil, slow-motion moment of peace amidst the flurried, busy days and nights of wider London. Conveniently located between Baker Street and Marylebone stations, there is plentiful access to a range of Transport for London services, including Bakerloo, Jubilee, Metropolitan, and City lines, and Chiltern railway services, to Bicester Village and Birmingham. Additionally the properties are a 20 minute walk from Paddington, where from August 2022, Elizabeth line services to Heathrow and Reading will commence. With stone’s throw access to Dorset Square Gardens and Regents Park, a tranquil escape from the bustle of city life is never too far away. Educational opportunities abound locally via the excellent and established University

of Westminster, London Business School, Alliance Francais, and the Royal Academy of Music. Marylebone Village and Oxford Street provide ample local shopping, and there is a wide range of dining and entertainment, including Chiltern Firehouse, Home House, Crazy Pizza, Nobu Hotel, Carousel, and the newly renovated Sir John Balcombe pub. For the gastronomically exacting, La Fromagerie, The Ginger Pig, Daylesford, Rococo Chocolates, and Ottolenghi await. The character of Marylebone is of a people united by their desire to live beautiful lives. A subtle, warm sense of unassuming pride emanates from the polished door handles, the wrought iron balconies, the pot plants auspiciously placed to brighten one’s view with a splash of green. It is a place filled by those who wish to make their living space - whether an established family home or a secure, low-maintenance pied-à-terre - truly special. Offered to market as freehold, Huntsworth Mews present you the unique opportunity to call a little piece of London your own.
